The Westport Police Department issued an alert over the weekend after receiving multiple complaints from businesses in town regarding a power company scam. Police said that the businesses have received call from persons purporting to be from Eversource Energy advising they will not have their power restored unless they provide over the phone payment.
As of Tuesday afternoon, following a third winter storm in less than two weeks, 4,347 Eversource customers in Connecticut were reporting outages, of their 1,269,304 customers, affecting less than 1 percent of the population.
According to police, Eversource crews have been working tirelessly to restore power to residents and businesses in Westport. The company does not require additional payment for this service. Please do not provide personal information or credit card information to anyone over the phone.
Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by the scam have been asked to contact the Westport Police Department by calling (203) 341-6000.
